ONE FULL DAY

FROM THE AUTHOR OF “A PERFECT UNION OF PATCHWORK & APPLIQUÉ”   C&T PUBLISHING, INC.

PROJECT  ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE   Begin a few block in Darlene’s “Evening Star” quilt seen in the book Big Book of Scrap Quilts while learning to make and use accurate templates and sew patchwork by hand anytime and anywhere. Other patchwork patterns will be demonstrated. The leaf and vine border will be demonstrated.

A Power Point presentation opens the class presenting the step by step process followed by ‘hands on’ practice. This enables every person to see and hear in the comfort of their chair.

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Thimble and misc. hand sewing tools. Small - sharp scissors for threads, 100% cotton 50/3 sewing thread – medium grey, Fiskars brand small scissors [chisel tip], wallpaper knife [found in the wallpaper department of a hand man store for $1.98], plastic template material [opaque – rigid], appliqué sharp needle #11, fine silk pins, one full new sheet of fine sandpaper or a sandpaper board, any mechanical pencil, Sharpie brand ultra fine permanent marking pen, one zip loc bag. I highly recommend INVISIGRIP.

MATERIALS NEEDED: 2 to 3 Fat quarters each; light, medium and dark fabrics to make one or two blocks in class. Assort the textures and colors. A scrap quilt is easiest to plan. Much time will be spent discussing fabric choices.

TO MAKE THE FULL QUILT:  72 scraps [approx. 3”x 9”] scraps in three varying color ranges, in assorted values and prints, 1-3/4 yards background fabric, 5/8 yard for the ½” strip on either side of the vine border, ½ yard multi colored print for the vine on the borders, 1/8 yard bold tone and value for the 1” cornerstones, 1-1/4 yard backing.

CLASS ROOM SET UP: Two irons and boards per every 12 students, ample lighting & table space for each student, two 8’ tables and four extra chairs for the instructor where possible. Can the room be darkened for a Power Point presentation? Is there a white wall?
