TWO FULL DAYS

PROJECT  ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE  One full day class on ‘Cutwork Appliqué’ and one full day class on circular patchwork such as the ‘Sunflower’ block pattern. Patterns from Darlene’s book, “A Perfect Union of Patchwork & Appliqué” will be used as a way to learn two complete lessons that will contribute to your hand sewing techniques. Make one block in each class to follow the lessons and plan a quilt after discussing fabric choices and possibilities.

SUPPLIES NEEDED: Fiskars brand scissors [small chisel point], Plastic template material [rigid – opaque – no lines], wallpaper knife [found in the wallpaper dept. of a handy guy store], Sharpie brand ultra fine permanent marking pen, any mechanical pencil, one full sheet fine sandpaper or sandpaper board, silver art pencil [VERITHIN], 2- 9” squares of freezer paper, stapler, staple puller, fine silk pins, needles; Richard Hemming & Sons milliners #11, Appliqué Sharps #11, 6” x 12” cutting ruler, Mettler 60/2 cotton thread [green lettering in color of appliqué fabric], 2- 50/3 cotton threads in the light & darker colors of the sunflower fabrics, small sharp scissors for threads and fabrics, thimble and any personal sewing tools.

MATERIALS NEEDED: CUTWORK; one 9” square each; background and appliqué prints. PATCHWORK; one 9” square background to sunflower block, one 6” square center circle, one eighth yd. sunflower points, one eighth yd. background to sunflower points.

CLASS ROOM SET UP: Two 8’ tables and four extra chairs for the instructor. Can the room be darkened for a Power Point presentation? Is there a white wall? 2 irons and boards per every 12 students where possible.
